The way we work today grew from building a residential smart-lighting brand, developing our product collection and working directly with homeowners since 2019.
WHERE NEAR BEGAN
It began with smart lighting.
Near began in 2019 with a small collection of connected lighting products for the home.
As the collection grew, so did our attention to the luminaire itself—how it performs, how it feels within a space and how small product decisions affect everyday use.
Working with homeowners, interior designers and contractors gradually showed us that the product could never be considered in isolation from the home around it.
The luminaire still matters.
We continue to look closely at how optics shape light, how glare is controlled, how colour affects materials and how construction influences long-term performance.
We do not select products only for how they look. We consider how they perform, where they belong and whether they provide a meaningful improvement to the home.
Every product should have a purpose.
Every recommendation should have a reason.
Good products were only part of the answer.
Over time, one lesson became increasingly clear: even a well-made luminaire can produce the wrong result when it is selected without considering the rest of the home.
Placement, furniture, ceiling conditions, glare, colour temperature and control all shape the final result.
That understanding led Near to its present focus—planning and supplying the lighting for the complete home.

Every project begins with the client's floor plan, furniture placement and available interior information.
Near then prepares a coordinated lighting proposal and detailed product quotation, covering placement, luminaires, beam characteristics, colour temperatures and control.
The proposal is reviewed and refined with the homeowner at our showroom.
Planning and product supply belong together.
Near works on complete residential lighting projects. We do not provide standalone lighting plans or sell individual fixtures separately.

Near has changed considerably since it began. Each chapter brought us closer to the way we work today.
Near begins
Near launched as a residential smart-lighting brand, offering a small collection of connected lighting products directly to homeowners.
The collection grows
The range expanded from five products to more than 30. Near also began working with interior designers and contractors alongside homeowners.
Near SG Pte Ltd is incorporated
Near SG Pte Ltd was incorporated, formalising the business that had been built since 2019.
The Honest Lighting chapter
The business operated publicly as Honest Lighting, bringing us into closer daily contact with homeowners and the practical decisions involved in lighting a home.
Whole-home planning becomes the focus
Near increasingly centred the business on planning and supplying lighting for the complete home, with proposals prepared from clients' plans and reviewed together at the showroom.
Back to Near
The public-facing brand returned to Near, bringing the product collection, lighting planning and showroom experience together under one name.
